The overall goal of mapsforge is providing a free and open toolbox that enables the community to easily create new OpenStreetMap based applications. Provided tools and APIs include solutions for map rendering, route planning and navigation, POI indexing and search, map overlays and more.The mapsforge project was initiated in 2008 at the computer science institute of Freie Universität Berlin. Currently about 10 students and scientific staff are involved in the project. AdvancedMapViewer requires loading map file, which can be found on the project's web page: mapsforge.org The AdvancedMapViewer is designed for Android 1.5 or higher.
