The Z-machine is a virtual machine that was used by Infocom for its text adventure games. Text adventures (also known as "interactive fiction") are kinds of games from old times, where the software simulates environments in which players use text commands to control characters and influence the environment. The emulator has three built-in games: Adventure, Bronze and Curses. This is quite enough for beginners to get the feeling of such kind of games. For those who want to play more text adventure games, Twisty allows to load external Z-Code executables with the *.z3, *.z5 and *.z8 file extensions. The "Z" in the "Z-machine" word stands for Zork, Infocom's first adventure game. To download more interactive fiction games we recommend to visit the The Interactive Fiction Archive at http://www.ifarchive.org/ Twisty is an open source project.
