The app does it by looking up the number in White Pages and Yellow Pages of your country and shows an on-screen notification. There is no need to start the app explicitly, it runs in the background intercepting the phone numbers of incoming calls. The app only triggers for numbers you don't have in address book. Currently working for USA, Italy and Morocco only. If you want another country to be added you can mail to developer the addresses of the yellow and white pages for that country (they must support reverse number-to-person search).
